OctSunday, 29 September saw Chris Cheetham welcome members to his President’s Day. Throughout the morning and the afternoon, members played in a Stableford competition and, thankfully, the weather was pleasant. After 9 holes, players dropped in at the Halfway House where Chris and his wife, Heather provide all manner of sumptuous snacks (sandwiches, crisps, sweet items, drinks etc) to reinvigorate everyone for the back-9.
That evening, the presentation was held in the clubhouse where a packed audience of members, family and friends awaited the results of the golf competition. First, Chris had to tell of the unexpected death of a club stalwart, Ken Smith. Everyone stood for a minute’s silence in memory of this great club member.
Chris went on to thank his family, especially Heather who had done so much to support him not just today but during his whole tenure. Emma Williams was thanked for looking after the bar and Owen Berger for dealing with the competition.
The results were then announced. No-one was successful at the two’s hole so that money has been added to the Club’s Charity.
Prizes were then awarded to the three leaders, in 3rd place with 35 Points was Aron Russell and in 2nd place also scoring 35 was Richard Meredith.
The winner (who also won in 2022) with 36 points was Anjon Mallik. The picture shows Chris presenting Anjon with his award. Anjon graciously thanked the President and also made reference to the the work done by Ken Smith and the how he will be missed.
The evening finished with a gorgeous supper of chilli and much, much more ably provided by Heather assisted by other members of Chris’s family
