The long-awaited match between the Captain’s team and the President’s took place on Sunday, 27 November.
A draw was made in the clubhouse to determine on whose team members were to play before everyone took their places on the course for a shotgun start to face the challenge of a 4BBB match.
Heavy rain in previous days meant that the course was quite soft but the weather on the day was pleasantly warm and it stayed dry for the whole of the match.
The prestigious fourball of Captain, Richard Osgerby accompanied by the Vice-Captain, Andy Williams and President, Chris Cheetham, partnered with the future Vice-Captain, Graham Russell duly drove from the 1st tee.
The President’s pairing took an early lead which was duly pulled back with the match being all square by the 18th at which, Chris and Andy both received a shot. Andy put his ball in the lake but recovered well by putting his next drive 18” from the flag. Sadly, he missed the putt but the President won the hole (and the match) with a gross par.
Tensions mounted as groups arrived back in the clubhouse and their results were made known.
For the first time in the history of this event the match was a draw.
The picture shows the President and Captain, both smiling, stood in front of the bar. The magnificent trophy is between them and this will be engraved to record this unique result.
