Sad to report that we have lost a long-serving member of the Club. Dick Gillgrass passed away on 13 January having bravely fought various kinds of cancer for many years. Dick joined the Club in July 1963, became Captain in 1981 and went on to be Club President for the years 1999-2000. His legal expertise helped the Club in many aspects, particularly with the Club Rules. He was a generous, thoughtful person with a quirky sense of humour which was aptly demonstrated at the pre-Christmas Fines Sessions when, adorned in his judge’s robes he fined the members with alacrity particularly whoever was Captain at the time.
He was also President of the Bradford Union of Golf Clubs in 1987. For his many services to the Club he was created a Life Member in 2009. With his old pals, Bob & Fred in the “Corner Shop”, he enjoyed many a Domino Card win and even within the last month or so, despite his illness, came to the Club to share a drink with his many friends.
His family have extended a welcome to all his friends to the Funeral service to be held at Skipton Crematorium on Friday 31 January at 11 :40 followed by a memorial repast at The Ilkley Moor Vaults on Stockeld Road. No flowers please but donations to Manorlands will be gratefully received.
