  • Funding provided by Ilkley and District Round Table is helping to promote junior golf in Ilkley. “We at Ben Rhydding Junior Golf section are very excited that Ilkley and District Round Table is supporting us with our new Blue tee short course at Ben Rhydding Golf Club and the Junior lesson scheme we’re running with expert tuition from Professional Golfer Andy Driver at Ilkley Golf Club practice ground.“

“With the backing of Owen Berger (Captain of Ben Rhydding Golf Club), Geoff Stone (President) and Howard Green (Treasurer) we aim to encourage more juniors to take up the game of golf and to promote more parents to play alongside their sons and daughters.”

Due to the funding gratefully received from Ilkley and District Round Table all lessons under this scheme, which is in its 6th year, are free of charge for junior golfers.

Junior lesson sessions run on various Saturdays until September at Ilkley Golf Club practice ground. Remaining sessions for 2015 will be held 27th June, 18th July and 12th September, with lessons for juniors aged 6 to 11 between 9:30am and 10:30am and for those aged between 12 and 18 between 10:30am and 11.30am.

During each session participants will be taught professional golfing skills and techniques. Any junior golfer interested in participating in any of the sessions is encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the session commences.

Ben Rhydding Junior Golf section has also received funding from Ilkley and district Round Table to help build and promote a new Blue tee short course. The Blue tees currently under construction at Ben Rhydding Golf Course are designed to encourage better scores from the junior section members by making the holes shorter, less tiring and quicker to play. The majority of the Blue tees are complete already and a helpful map of the new Blue course will be available soon.

Reduced annual green fees have been developed to encourage junior golfers to play alongside their parents. More information is available by contacting Ben Rhydding Golf Club.

Anyone who feels that they, or someone they know in the local area, could benefit from funding provided by Ilkley and District Round Table is asked to contact communityservice@ilkleyroundtable.org.uk
